Focusing on “achievement” is a distraction. It pulls your mind away from attending to the thing, whatever that may be. So, rather than being fully immersed in it, you give-in to the distraction of achievement. Distraction that generates anxiety and inner tension.

Another way

However, there is another way where you can resolve to say “no” to the distracting voice of achievement. To;

Create with passion
Share with love
Refine with learning
And, repeat

You see, the secret lies in how you relate to whatever it is that you want to do. It is about your internal process. The extent to which you are committed to the experience of walking a path, rather than the supposed glory of the destination. Often, the mountain top of achievement that we think we desire, feels no different when we get there. You feel like you haven’t arrived because you didn’t really know what you were looking for in the first place!

False promise

We often pin achievement to external status indicators that we think we should aim for. Ideas of success that lie outside of ourselves that we hope to reach someday if we are lucky. But, why wait? What if the distraction of achievement is really a lie? A false promise that is never fulfilled.

Isn’t it far more robust to find a sense of fulfilment in the process? In the moment-by-moment experience of the activity. The funny thing is that external results will very likely take care of themselves if you create, share and refine, with love and curiosity.

Beyond the distraction of achievement

Remember that whatever the external results may be, your inner state will always guide you. It is the origin of everything you do. It is the difference between inner freedom and worried tension.
